The Fence

The Fence by Sheena Blackhall is a reflective poem that questions the purpose and effectiveness of barriers created by human beings. Both poems highlight the conflict between nature and human-made boundaries. Nature constantly tries to destroy or cross the barriers created by humans. In Mending Wall, natural forces break the wall every year. Similarly, in The Fence, the thistle, rain, wind and mole ignore the fence and make it powerless.
